Ok, i tried to dye my hair dark brown but when it was rinsed out, my hair color hardly changed...?

i had dirty blond hair and i bought dark ash brown. i made sure it was thoroughly in my hair and i kept the dye in for like 40 min when i was actually only supposed to keep it in for 25... i don't get it. now my hair is like just a tiny bit darker than it was before... not even brown. oh and i used clairol so idk if thats a good brand or what.

If you want to go brown use Revlon (golden box) I believe the name has something to do with 'silk'

I've never had a problem going darker, only lighter.

Try the revlon, keep it in for the recommended time for blondes. Also, don't shampoo afterwards, just use the conditioner they provide in the box.

It can take time to change your shade dramatically, you are usually supposed to move 1 -2 shades up at a time. Instead of jumping from Black to Blonde.

I would recommend the revlon, once again, i've never had a problem with it. If anything it came out darker than I wanted it to.

But then you shouldn't have a problem with no change/ slight change.

I hope this helps.

use a darker color

I used Garnier Fructis and it works great! And a darker shade would probably help.

Ok, don't use ash brown....choose like a warm dark brown or a neutral dark brown. I've used ash brown on my dark brown hair and it really messed it up! Its definately not the right color for you...hope that helps!

I don't know if you use any hair products or not, but that could prevent the dye from being absorbed as much as it could have. I've used clairol before to dye my hair back to black and it worked perfectly. The shade difference between your hair and the dye could also have been too little, but it really depends on what shade when you say dirty blonde. When you rinse out the dye, make sure you're using cold water because cold water'll make the hair hold onto the dye better (it causes the hair strands to constrict with the dye still inside)

first off - don't keep color in your hair for that long it'll dry it out. Clairol is good but not the best. You can get a kit that will take your hair color (dye) out if you wanted to redo it. Or you can wait for a few weeks and put in a darker color. As far as the brands I use I stick with Revlon Colorsilk it works without the cost. I have tried more expensive brands that didn't work near as well. If you have a walmart go check it out. The kit that takes out the color is about 7.00 and the hair color is about 4.00.

Perhaps you need a darker shade. Usually on the side of the box, it will show you if you have a blonde hair, your hair will look like this... etc. This can show you how much darker, or lighter your hair will be once the dye is used. You can also determine what your hair color will look like once dyed by dying only a small strand hidden from most people's views, this way you can decide if you like the color or not, w/o ruining your hair and wasting all your money. Don't forget to follow the instructions on the box exactly, keeping it into long might damage your hair, or maybe have no effect at all..who knows?

I hope this helps!!!!

Weird situation. Should have never happened. Perhaps the mixture was wrong, or the dye lot had something incorrect in it??

Number l-- always use a tint on fresh shampooed hair, no conditioner etc. dry it, do not use anything with 'ash' in the color code, it has a green tint in it, use just plain brown or mix it with a highlite (like red?or something you like), or dr. brown,

buy the bottles separate at Sally's with the peroxide the clerks will help you, they are licensed beauticians.

I always use Loreal preference or excellence. Works great.

You'll be fine.

Anytime you are going more than 2 shades darker or lighter than your natural color you should consult with a professional colorist at a salon.
